Self Love Quotes and Self Love Affirmations and Why They are Important for You (Plus How to Create Your Own)

Many times a day we see self love quotes and affirmations.  A quick search on Amazon reveals calendars, quote books and journals all dedicated to this effort.  But why are they important and how to self love quotes and self love affirmations help us?  Plus we are sharing some of our favorite self self love affirmations.

What Are Affirmations, and Do They Work?

According to the Mind Tools team Affirmations are positive statements that can help you to challenge and overcome self-sabotaging  and negative thoughts. When you repeat them often, and believe in them, you can start to make positive changes.

Affirmations like repetitive exercises that improve our physical health are like exercises for our mind and outlook. These positive mental repetitions can reprogram our thinking patterns so that, over time, we begin to think – and act – differently.

According to researchers, spending just a few minutes thinking about your best qualities before a high-pressure meeting can calm your nerves, increase your confidence, and improve your chances of a successful outcome. Self-affirmation may also help to mitigate the effects of stress.

Positive affirmations have been used to successfully treat people with low self-esteem, depression, and other mental health conditions. And they have been shown to stimulate the areas in our brains that make us more likely to effect positive changes in regard to our health.  Suggesting that a stronger sense of self-worth makes you more likely to improve your own well-being.

With that said, incorporating self love affirmations and quotes may not be all you need.

How to Incorporate Self Affirmations Into Your Day

Hal Elrod, the author of the Miracle Morning believes in incorporating affirmations in your morning routine daily.  In his book Miracle Mornings he provides a very specific way to write your daily affirmations.  He then suggests that they need to be stated and used with intention, focus and purpose.  A quick read will not reveal the power of affirmations.

Similarly, Che Garmin, author of Affirm Your Life, explains, you can’t reprogram a lifetime’s worth of negative self-talk by saying affirmations twice a day. You need to bombard your subconscious mind with a constant stream of positive thoughts, words, pictures, sounds, and emotions. Your goal has to be in front of you at all times.

If you seriously want to change things, you must be prepared to flood your subconscious mind with all the direction, passion and purpose you are capable of providing. Repeat your affirmations every chance you can, until you reach your goal. Persist until you succeed.

Jill Conyers also suggests Writing them down, creating a little special card with the words, putting post-it notes on your mirrors, next to your computer, your refrigerator or using it as your computer screen will reinforce the messages and will train your subconscious mind to tune into the truth of self-love more and more often.

How Else Can I Commit to My Self Love Affirmations?

As we discuss in our article on New Ways to Practice Self Love for February and Beyond.  Self-love is not simply a state of feeling good. It is a state of appreciation for oneself that grows from actions that support our physical, psychological and spiritual growth.

Self Love Affirmations are one component of a Self Love Practice but caring for ourselves and reinforcing our commitment to self love is also important.

In celebration of this concept we worked with a designer to create some special designs to live and reinforce our commitment to Self Love.
